We have been married for more than four decades, but our marriage didn’t begin as the beautiful love story we enjoy today.
Our first ten years together were incredibly difficult. Our marriage was filled with pain, conflict, disappointment, and broken trust. By every outward indication, ours was a marriage that probably shouldn’t have survived.
But God had another story.
What began as a desperate journey to save our own marriage eventually became a discovery that completely transformed it. We learned that a great marriage begins when a husband learns to love his wife with the selfless, sacrificial agape love Christ demonstrated—and when husband and wife learn to live as equal partners, mutually submitted to one another and to Christ.
The transformation in our own marriage was so dramatic that it eventually became our life’s calling.
Since 2004, we have devoted our lives to helping husbands and wives heal broken marriages and build extraordinarily happy ones. Through more than two decades of hands-on marriage ministry, we have worked personally with couples facing virtually every kind of marital crisis—from years of resentment and emotional disconnection to separation, betrayal, and marriages that seemed beyond hope.
Our approach is practical, biblical, intensive, and deeply personal. We don’t simply teach marriage principles from a platform. We walk alongside couples as those principles are put into practice in everyday life.
We are the authors of The Man of Her Dreams/The Woman of His! and Livin’ It and Lovin’ It!, and our ministry includes private marriage coaching, our intensive 5-Day Weekend Marriage Intensive, the seven-month Rocket Launch program, weekly men’s, women’s, and couples’ calls, and ongoing support for couples around the country and beyond.
Our message is rooted in something we have experienced firsthand: A marriage that has been deeply wounded can become deeply healed.
And we don’t believe the goal should simply be to stay married.
The goal is to become best friends. To enjoy one another. To feel safe, valued, loved, and wanted. To build a marriage where both husband and wife can flourish and where the relationship becomes a living demonstration of the love of Christ.
After more than 40 years of marriage and more than 20 years of marriage ministry, we’re not teaching a theory.
We’re living it.
Today, we describe our own marriage with two simple words: Outrageously Happy.
And our passion is helping other couples discover that kind of marriage for themselves.

A Little More About Us
Q1: How long have you been married, and what is one thing you love most about being married to each other?
42 years. 32 of them happy!
Joel: One thing? Can't do just one! Hugging on each other in bed at night, watching a TV show together, waking up hugging on each other in the morning, making love, doing enjoyable things together, ministering together! Can't just pick one!
Kathy: That we make our marriage our priority!
Q2: What is one marriage mistake you wish you had understood soon?
Joel: I wish we had never been taught the old failed marriage Paradigm in the beginning of wife submit, husband lead and wife respect. Ugh.
Kathy: Following the well-meaning instruction but miserably failing instructions to just pray for Joel when he was not treating me right in our first 10 years
Q3: What Scripture has had the greatest impact on your marriage, and why?
Kathy: Ephesians 5:21 - mutually submit one to another.
1 Peter 3:17 - Living with your wife in an understanding way, which refers to science, which leads us to oxytocin and blood flow in the brain.
Psalm 116:1-2 amplified - Gave me permission to tell Joel how I felt if something was is bothering me.
Eph 5:25 - Husbands, love your wife like Christ loves the church. And
Titus 2:4 - Wives, love your husband in return with a philandres, responsive love. (all paraphrased)
Joel: Ditto
Q4: What is your favorite date idea?
Joel and Kathy: don't know if it's best ideas but our current favorite date is a combination of eating out, playing Mini golf, going to Dave & Buster's and playing Connect Four basketball, and going to great movies.
Q5: What is one thing your spouse does that helps your marriage thrive?
Joel: Kathy always warmly responds to the good things that I initiate and treats me great all day every day in response to me treating her great all day everyday! And the answer is always "yes!" - subject to energy levels!
Kathy: Joel keeps the marriage first, dates, being together most of the time.
